Put your Lobos Management kitchen to work this year… even if you are not hosting a Thanksgiving celebration, you can still cook something up to serve your friends and family on November 24th.  Here are 2 recipes that I thought were worthy of sharing.

Your guests will have no complaints about this delicious vegan recipe for Savory Swiss Chard Pie.  If you are serving some carnivores, too, I suggest this as a side dish, but it is definitely tasty enough to snag the starring role of your vegetarian holiday meal; it recently got rave reviews from all my vegan friends at a potluck dinner.  Here’s a link.

For those of you who want to try something different, but can’t imagine “Turkey Day” without the bird… put this spin on the traditional… I got this recipe from Keystone Country’s November/December 2011 issue.  I think it would be great for leftovers, too!

Turkey BBQ

Ingredients:
14-20 pound roasted turkey
Strain drippings from the roaster turkey
1 stick of butter
2 cans cream of celery soup
1 soup can of water
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
Place strained turkey drippings into a crock pot and add the butter, soup, water, and salt & pepper.  Heat to a low boil.
Cut and shred both breast and dark meat; adding to crock pot.  Cover and simmer for 3-6 hours on low.
Serve on Kaiser rolls.

This is actually a converted convent, nestled into a quaint neighborhood and surrounded by residential homes and other beautiful, historical buildings.  The manager of this building describes it as “Brand-Spanking Old!”, because although it was built in the 1920’s and retains many original architectural features, it has been so well kept that the apartments within still feel flawless and new.

Praises:  The charm and unique feel of home created by the detailing, such as the refinished parquet wood floors, stained glass windows, marble staircases, raised panel trim and crown molding.

Complaints:  No in apartment laundry… you have to use the shared laundry room on the ground floor.

(Okay, Abby, private laundry in your apartment is nice… but at least the apartments have Central Air!)

_  Lobos Management is constantly renovating and modernizing its many properties. Recently the Fountain Square building in North Versailles got a newly paved parking lot! Check back for more updates and improvements.

One of the greatest perks of living in Lobos Management’s many city buildings is that grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques are easily accessible without driving.  In Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, Oakland and the surrounding areas, you can easily hop on a bus or walk to many desirable destinations for shopping, eating and drinking.  The new pedestrian bridge that connects Ellsworth Avenue to the East Side shopping will only improve the accessibility in the Shadyside and East Liberty neighborhoods.  The East Side plaza currently houses Whole Foods, Starbucks, Walgreens, T-Mobile, Trek Bicycle Store, MCN Salon and more, not to mention the other fantastic restaurants and the brand new Target located on Penn Circle.  For several Lobos apartments, and for the Lobos Management office in Shadyside, this bridge is great news!  For one thing, it will eliminate the office staff at Lobos Management’s complaints about driving over to Starbucks and dealing with the terrible parking, just for a morning or mid day caffeine fix… now we will all be fighting over who gets to stroll over the new bridge to fetch the coffee!

Did you know that you can pay your rent online?  Here are some tips on how to pay online using the Lobos Management website.  You can use a credit card, debit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express) or e check from your bank account.  If you are a current tenant, or if you are interested in submitting an application, just follow these easy steps from the comfort of your home or local library.

1.       Go to lobosmanagement.com

2.      Click the green Pay Online tab at the top of the page.

3.      Click on Not Registered Yet?  (See screen image below.)

4.      Enter your name, e-mail address, unit and property.  Choose a password.

(When looking for the property, look under the address and/or building name.

For example, either Royal Windsor or 222 Melwood Ave.)

5.      Now you are logged onto your account.  Click Make Payment.

6.      Enter the amount in the correct category.  (Rent goes under Lease Payment).

This is the step where you have the option to type something in under “Notes” if necessary.  (See screen image below.)

7.      Enter payment information.

8.      Take a moment to review your entries- check your address and amount.

9.      Print your receipt for your records.

This is such a great option if you are coming close to the rent due date or if you are away from your checkbook.  You can even set up automatic payment… one less thing to stress about each month.

We use an outside venue for our credit card payments, and the fees can be very high- to avoid the urge for complaints, I advise that you use a debit card or e check if possible, because the convenience fee for a credit card can be a rip off!

This building is tucked away on a beautiful residential street and it has a great “old Hollywood” feel with an elegant lobby and black and white checkered floors.

Praises:  Old world charm, free heat, off street parking, bus stop right outside the door, across the street from the library… now renting with a $99 security deposit special.

                Complaints:  No elevator.

(Okay, Abby, this 4 floor building doesn’t have an elevator, but just think about the calories you’ll burn taking the stairs!)
