Lobos Management reviews… Houseplants!

Do you want to add some life to your apartment décor?  Pick up some houseplants!  Here are some suggestions on which plants are great for apartment living… even if you don’t have a green thumb.

A favorite of mine are cacti.  Horticulture is not my forte, and even my sparse, horrible service to these poor plants keep them alive.  It helps to know that a cactus doesn’t need to be watered at all during the winter, and really only about 1 or 2 times a month during the rest of the year.

Add a lush Boston fern to your Lobos Management apartment… they are beautiful all year long, and they don’t need much sunlight.  They are also in the top five for plants that purify the air!  English ivy is also great for air purification, but watch out- this plant could be toxic if consumed by your pet.

Other good suggestions for low light areas are the snake plant, cast iron plant, or lucky bamboo.  They are all very resilient and have a lovely tropical look.  The snake plant or cast iron plants are the perfect solution for a dark, lonely corner of your apartment; and the lucky bamboo look great on a mantel or shelf.

So brighten up your living space and give it that great feeling of home- hopefully these plant reviews are helpful.

Over the front door, this building reads "Cinderella"... I don't know where that name came from, but even I must admit this apartment is a fairy tale dream come true!

Praises:  New everything- hardwood floors, stainless steel kitchen appliances, granite counter tops, custom tile, energy efficient windows, stackable in unit washer/dryer.  And location- close to restaurants and boutiques in Lawrenceville and on a bus route.

Complaints:  Street parking.

(Hey, Abby, FYI a City of Pittsburgh residential parking permit is only $20.00… and a guest pass is $1.00!) Here’s a link to the Pittsburgh Parking Authority for more info:  http://www.city.pittsburgh.pa.us/pghparkingauthority/html/residential_parking.html

Okay, so you all know that person in the work place that constantly has to interrupt every conversation to let you know what he/she thinks about every issue.  Here at Lobos Management, that person is Honest Abby.  She's not afraid to tell you what she thinks; she doesn't care if she offends someone; she is just brutally honest.  So we decided to ask her to review some Lobos Management apartments and give her honest opinion.  Each apartment review will contain her praises and of course her complaints... because Honest Abby could find a flaw in winning a million dollars!

No matter your age, its always fun to celebrate the autumn harvest season by visiting a local farm or pumpkin patch.  So here are some suggestions and reviews for great places close to Lobos Management buildings.

If you live in Lobos Management's Waldorf Park, off of McKnight Rd... I suggest either Soergel Orchards or Shenot Farm & Market- both about a 20 min drive from Waldorf Park apartments.  Both places offer a hayride, corn maze, pumpkin patch, and plenty of delicious produce and baked goods.  Tom Cruise recently visited Soergel's with his wife Katie Holmes and daughter Suri to enjoy fun fall activities!
Soergel's also features a cider press, farm animals, play area and pumpkin painting... my only complaint is that sometimes Sorgel's gets a bit crowded.
Shenot's is a little more low key, but just as much fun... and you get a complimentary, delicious apple and a cup of apple cider when you take a hayride!
Soergel Orchards- 2573 Brandt School Road,  Wexford, PA 15090
Shenot Farm & Market- 3754 Wexford Run Road,  Wexford, PA 15090

If you live in one of Lobos Management's South Hills or Bethel Park properties, Trax Farms Market is a great choice!  It is located 12 miles south of Pittsburgh on Rt. 88.  It has the traditional hayrides, corn maze, apple cider and pumpkins (also Wednesday and Friday evenings).  For a unique touch, it also features an Antique Loft.  We have no complaints about the prices... especially with the coupon available on the Trax Farms website ($20 off your $100 purchase!).
Trax Farms Market- 528 Trax Road, Finleyville, PA 15332

For residents of Lobos Management's airport area buildings, spend a lovely day at Hozak Farms.  This local farm is most commonly known for its tree farm, where you can cut down your own pine, fir or spruce tree.  This time of year you can celebrate Fall Fest there with pumpkin picking and painting, pony rides, hayrides, musical entertainment and more.
Hozak Farms- 488 Anderson Hozak Road,  Clinton, PA 15026

If you live in the Shadyside, Oakland or Squirrel Hill area, you could always take a day trip to one of the previously mentioned farms... or just take a short bus ride or walk to the locally owned and operated Beechwood Garden Center in Shadyside.  It is an urban garden center and gives you the feel of a family farm because of the

small rustic store front and friendly staff.  Sometimes trendy places like this can be a rip off, but compared to buying a pumpkin at Whole Foods or Giant Eagle, the price is just as fair.  This is a fun alternative to visiting a local pumpkin patch, so please, no complaints that there is no hayride or corn maze... this is an urban garden center!

Beechwood Garden Center- 510 Maryland Avenue,  Pittsburgh, PA 15232

Right now there is a lovely 3 bedroom townhouse available in Lobos Management's Stotler Townhomes Plan in Penn Hills. 3 bedrooms, yard, porch, garage, private cul de sac.  Close to shopping, restaurants and the local library.
$645/month plus utilities.  Let the photos speak for themselves (check Facebook and Craigslist!)... or better yet, schedule a showing with Deena!

Lobos Management's Highland Manor building got new windows- energy efficient and beautiful, too!  Check out the photo on Facebook.

Whether you live, work or go to school in the Shadyside or Oakland area, you may be fighting the constant parking battle. As a former University of Pittsburgh student, I feel your pain. I can recall the nightmarish struggles of circling the same block for 30 minutes, yelling curses and complaints, before finally finding a meter spot, only to return to my car from classes to find the meter maid writing me a ticket! And, yes, you can get two tickets in one day… even if you leave the first one sitting on your windshield- what a rip off! For those of you who have been around long enough to remember… Schenley Plaza used to be a parking lot, too. Although the beautification of the city is wonderful, and it is lovely to lie in the grass on a sunny day, or grab lunch at one of the food stands that are now located there-The Bagel Factory, Asian Tea House, Opa Gyros, and Milky Way (the food there got great reviews)-… it has only made the horrible parking situation even worse for Oakland.
The good news is… there are parking spaces available in some of the Lobos Management lots and garages in North Oakland and Shadyside. You will thank yourself every day as you pull into your spot, no hassles, no stress. You don’t have to be a resident of the building to lease a space. Right now there is a special, just $65/month (I spent double that some months on meters and parking tickets… yikes!) So quit with the complaints and call the Lobos Management office for more info!

Just a block or so down from our Highland Manor Apartments and
Fenwyck Apartments (and some other Lobos Management buildings), a new Mad Mex opened. Mad Mex is a stylish tex-mex themed restaurant that has multiple locations in Pittsburgh. The high reviews about Mad Mex don’t give it enough credit. The cool atmosphere, great food and more importantly the margaritas contribute to a great dining experience. It has reasonable prices and lots of choices for vegetarians, too. My favorite, the Chick Pea Chile, is well reviewed and tastes great. Though my only complaint is the terrible parking on that block (though the valet helps), it’s always a top choice for our Lobos Management lunches and dinners.
